About Bridge Parenting

After recognizing substantial gaps in services available to families, Bridge Parenting was founded by Kristen Poppert-Brown to fill this need and supports families in building relationships that bridge the family divide. Formally trained as a child and family therapist, Kristen witnessed first hand how parents struggle with many common challenges not effectively addressed in clinical settings. Though extremely disruptive and stressful, families still may not qualify for a diagnosis where there are arguing siblings, teenagers skipping curfew, and toddlers having meltdowns and tantrums. The reality is that mental health treatment through insurance requires a psychiatric diagnosis, but this does not mean that parents and families aren’t struggling even when the threshold for a diagnosis is not met. Further, the application of advice given in therapy about improving behavior can be confusing and overwhelming to implement once home. Bridging the gap between what is offered and what is needed in our community, Bridge Parenting provides the support so that families can once again thrive.

The more present and playful parents are with their children, the more they embrace emotions, teach and not lecture, correct and not punish, and the more they say yes, the more likely a child will be independent and believe in their ability to create positive change for themselves and for the world.
